How To Make Butterfly Trails with Sequins

The butterflies on this printed paper just scream to be given trails with sequins. I've used ink pen, stitching, gems, and enamel dots; but this is a first with sequins. I had to start by outlining the butterflies as they merge into the pattern.

I drew the trail with Helmar glue then shook the sequins over it. I dusted off the extra sequins and repositioned the remaining ones into the right shape. It's a process that I will have to refine, but the result is lovely.

Here they are reflecting the light. The shine is phenomenal!

Rows of punched butterflies and a glittered burlap shape continue the theme. This is a companion page to last weeks post Prickle Pig. I used the same lavender, spotted tape with a different stitching technique. 

I stacked and stitched the pink and yellow butterfly sequins from Spiegel Mom Scraps sequin mixes. I bent the wings up and left the gold braid long for antenna.

Quick and Easy Stitched Sequin Layout

This porcupine layout features wood grain paper and a row of stitched sequin hearts. This sweet little lady had quite a thing for carrots. She was thrilled to waddle up to Si and eat out of his hand, then search for more.

I echoed the heart shape in veneer, felt, cork, and cut outs along the photo edges. The bird is a feature of the patterned paper. I added gems to the branch and butterflies. Prima flowers with the 5th petal trimmed into antenna made delicate butterfly embellishments.

I added a strip of lavender washi tape to the lower edge of the photo mat. I used the dots on the tape as a guide for stitching sequin hearts to the page. I included a spray of sequins that runs from the lower left corner to the upper right.

How to Make Woodgrain Paper with Mist

Here's a tutorial on a pair of Porthole Cards with tips on how to make wood grain paper with mist. I used two different patterned papers with similar results. The mermaids are different styles depending on the amount of time you have. Enjoy the tutorial!

~ Ahoy There ~

I started with patterned paper in blue. I needed to change the color as well as enhance the grain. I used mist in a medium and a dark brown to create the look I wanted. 

 Step 1: Paint paper with medium brown mist. Use a light layer, too much will saturate the card front.

 Step 2: Paint dark brown stripes over medium brown while it is still wet. This will help the colors meld and give the wood grain effect. If the stripes are too extreme go over the paper with the medium brown a second time.

 The original paper beside the new, wood grain effect gives you a good idea of the change. The second card front also started out blue. I gave the card a medium brown wash and let the existing wood grain shine through. Mist and a paint brush is all it takes.

 The porthole is stamped onto grey cardstock and cut out with Kreaxions Circle Cutter. I adhered it directly to the card front.

 I applied liquid adhesive and craft foam to the back of the card front then left it to dry.

 I diecut the mermaid from script patterned paper then painted on the particulars. you can see the before and after above.

 Mermaid Painting Guide

Step 1: Paint the tale leaving a curve where it meets the body.
Step 2: Paint hair in gold. Use small thin strokes.
Step 3: Paint locks of hair in dark green using medium strokes.

Step 4: Add additional locks of hair in teal using thick strokes.

 By the time my mermaid had dried my card front was also ready. I adhered the mermaid to the center of a blue card blank then added the porthole/wood grain over the top. The second card features a mermaid sticker and is much quicker to make. 

Whether you prefer the painted diva or the pre-cut sticker, this porthole card is sure to please!

How To Make a Fast and Easy Hair Color Layout

This circle focused layout shows how to document hair color fast and easy. Fabulous paper, a catchy title, and of course a smattering of sequins make this layout a winning combination. Calambour provided the seashell and mermaid papers. The lovely sequin mix is courtesy of Spiegel Mom Scraps, and the title, well that's a fav Insta hashtag!

~ Mermaid Hair ~

The mermaid and seashell papers were an instant match for this photo as was the blue cardstock base. Circles represent bubbles, and focus the eye on the photo. I lightly penciled an 8" circle onto the Shell paper then got busy with punches and my Kreaxions Circle Cutter. 

 To give the cardstock bubbles a bit of pop I doodled around the inside edge. I did the same around the photo, for good measure. 

 Drip Rings, a Memory Box texture stencil, added hints of circle among the cut outs. I rubbed on Tonic Studios Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Citrus Green and Coastal Surf. I also spritzed, painted, and splattered with Tattered Angels Chalkboard in Inchworm, Jade, and Boogie Board.

I inked the edges of some of the circle cutouts and wrapped the others in washi tape then scattered them on the layout. I even popped up a few of them with foam tape. Finally I added a smattering of Robin's Nest Dew Drops and those GORGEOUS sequins!

Dazzling Snow Makes for Happy Days and Simple Joys

Non-Traditionalist here!
I love creating with unusual colors and pops of glitter.
The unicorn-bright colors for this card all come from the
Kreaxions Sparkle Duo Paper. This two sided paper has
an opalescent finish with bits of sparkle.

To duplicate the gold glitter snowflakes:
Step 1: Cut a 3" circle using the Kreaxions Circle Cutter.
Step 2: Use a protractor to divide the circle into 6 even sections

of 60 degrees each.
Step 3: Center Kreaxions Punch #907 on each section.
Step 4: Add glue to half the snowflake, dust with glitter, let dry.

My post for the hop is a Triple Tree Christmas Card.
Kreaxions has such lovely two-sided papers, sized perfectly for card making. I created this card to display those papers and show how easy it is too incorporate both sides in a design.

~ Merry Christmas ~

Cutting and Punching Diagram
Step 1) Cut a piece of two-sided cardstock 5.5" long and 5" tall.
 Step 2) Draw a horizontal line 0.5" down from the top.
Step 3) Mark the cardstock 2.25" from the right side, on the line.  

Step 4) Make additional marks at the bottom of the paper 0.75" from the right and 3.75" from the right.
Step 5) Use a ruler to draw a straight line through the mark at the top and the 0.75" mark at the bottom. 

Step6) Use the ruler again for the mark at the top and the 3.75" mark at the bottom. 

This will create a triangular shape for the tree.

Decorate the Tree

Fold the tree along the right and left triangle sides. 

To decorate your tree use the Kreaxions Circle Cutter set at various widths.

Set the point of the circle cutter at the intersection of the lines at the top of the tree. Begin the cut at the fold mark and cut away from the tree to the edge of the cardstock.
Cut 3", 6", and 8" partial circles on the left side of the tree. On the right side cut 3.5" and 5.5" partial circles.

On the left side of the tree cut the second and forth section away from the tree at the fold line. On the right side of the tree cut the first and third section away at the fold line.

The remaining sections will be the garland. Fold them toward the tree and cut off the excess that extends beyond the tree. Punch the left and right sides of the garland with a Kreaxions 4-in-1 punch. Some punches will work better than others so test various punches to find the right combination for you!

 Fold the punched garland in toward the tree, adhere to lay flat.

For my card I used three different punches

 as well as three types of Kreaxions paper.
For the Green and White tree I used

Punch #909 and the Kreaxions Glitter Paper.
For the black and pink tree I used

 Punch #913 and the Duo Paper A5 Size.

For the purple and cream tree I used

 Punch #920 and the Kreaxions Sparkle Duo Paper.

I used kraft paper and the Kreaxions circle cutter to make the tea cup for this card. For the cup I cut a 3.25" half circle. I embossed the rose design and added gold glitter paste to the rim. For the handle I cut a 1.25" circle and then cut a 1" circle out of the center. 

I inked the edges of the handle and the cup for contrast.

Autumn is my favorite season.

I used Kreaxions punches and circle cutter to recreate that feel for this card.
For the sunshine I used Punch # 902 around the edge of a 5in circle. I connected the punched designs with a craft knife. I cut the resulting doily and inked the edges. 

The clouds started with a 4in circle and Punch #920. I layered them at the top edge of the card and under the sun.

Not Forgot

Today's project is a mini-album to commemorate those fur babies that have gone over the rainbow bridge.

For this project I began with the Chipboard Frame from Gina's Designs.

I spread glitter paste across the surface. Before that dried I added glue and a dusting of large glitter.

For the album I cut 5.75" circles from
Black and White Thermal Animal Cardstock
Rosy Diamond Cardstock
Pink Zebra Glitter Cardstock
Black and White Glitter Paws Cardstock
Pink Glittered Leopard Cardstock

I adhered the circles back to back and added washi tape around the edge.

For the hinge I punched 8 circles, 1.25" in diameter and glued them back to back.

I used brads to attach the circles between the pages.

For the the outer hinge I punched a couple 2" circle and glued them back to back. I used brads to attach the large circle to the first and last pages.

To complete the project I I die-cut a butterfly from the Khaki Glitter Cardstock, and rolled it through a paper crimper.

 I put a touch of glitter paste on the wing tips and dew drops down the middle.

To finish the album I adhered the frame to the front page then added the butterfly.

This album was easy to assemble with all the animal motif cardstock options from The Robin's Nest. Now I have a gift on hand to cheer a friend who has had to say goodbye to a four legged companion.

My Boy

Today I bring you an altered Embroidery Hoop that is all about boys! I knew what I wanted to do as soon as I saw that adorable racoon rub-on and the glitter pine tree paper.

~ My Boy ~

Before beginning the project loosen the screw and separate the center hoop from the outer hoop.

Step 1: Cut circle for base paper that will fit center hoop exactly, and ink the edges. Also ink the edges of outer hoop and leave to dry.

 

  Step 2: Add Rub On's and a partial circle of paper in a contrasting color.

 Step 3: Glue circle to center hoop.  Add a ring of hot glue on the inside to strengthen bond.

 Step 4: Assemble Charms
For mine I used a bicycle, a circle of paper with a rub-on and dew drop, and a clippie with three dew drops. I strung them with twine and draped the twine over the tightening screw.

Step 5: Reassemble hoops, add dew drops to outer hoop.

These paper collections meld seamlessly and are perfect for any forest adventure theme!
