How To Make A Lovely Watercolored Mermaid

This watercolored mermaid card is as lovely as it is easy to make. The watercolors were painted in pastels and dried to an attractive chalky finish. Fussy cut waves flow around this water beauty and fade away into the background. The quote reminds us to 

~ Always Be A Mermaid ~

 The first step in making this card was stamping and embossing the mermaid. I chose watercolor paper and clear embossing powder. The heat embossing defines borders that hold the watercolors in.

 Water pens are a most universal tool and provide the just-right amount of water color for the pan of color. When painting the tail I went over all of it in the light blue. When that had dried I went back over it and added bright colors to a few scales. The hair was done very carefully, with drying time between each additional color.

 I stamped the center of the card base with waves in a light grey ink. I dotted the mermaid with Best Glue Ever and placed her at the center. I left the tip of her tail free to curl over the wave.

 The waves are stamped and then heat embossed with white embossing powder on grey cardstock.

 I fussy cut the waves and added a stripe of Best Glue Ever to adhere craft foam.

 Quick drying time and then a layer of Best Glue Ever on the craft foam prepared the waves for placement on the card.

 The sentiment is stamped in purple ink and heat embossed with clear powder.

 One final layer of Best Glue Ever adheres the base to the 4x6" card blank.

How To Make A Stunning Mixed Media Mermaid

This stunning mixed media card has a mermaid silhouette made from Calambour 3D Glossy Gel. The gel was applied thickly through a stencil with a brush to leave a nubby texture. Foiled and patterned paper in a Copper and Turquoise color scheme offer the reader a Great Day. 

 The base of this card is a 4x6" piece of patterned cardstock. I placed a slightly smaller paper over it, then painted the edges with Chalkboard Mist.

 I pair of concentric ovals in copper and turquoise shape the center. Best Glue Ever in scant amounts holds the foiled paper to the base.

 The mermaid is painted on the center piece with a home made stencil and 3D Glossy Gel.

 After allowing the mermaid to dry thoroughly, a few stripes of Best Glue Ever secure the top oval in place.

 The sentiment is popped up with the help of craft foam and dots of Best Glue Ever. The No-Clog Writing Cap ensures the glue goes only where it is needed.

  A cluster of shell stickers adorn the corner and the card is complete.

How To Make A Congratulations Card That Shines

Today's project is a Congratulations card that shines. Rinea Foiled Paper and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist work together to give the dragon a spark of personality. Best Glue Ever from ScraPerfect works behind the scenes to keep things secure. 

~ Congratulations ~

 The dragon medallion is a stamped and embossed image. I painted it with Glimmer Mist to give it a water color effect. I used a corrugated circular die to cut out the dragon.

The base of this card is a 4"x 6" piece of emerald Rinea Foiled Paper. On top of that I placed a slightly smaller piece of black cardstock with the word Congratulations cut out from it with a die.

 I used Best Glue Ever to go all around the word. To get in the small spaces with out over doing it I used a No-Clog Writing Cap.

The dragon medallion is centered on a strip of gold foiled paper with scant amounts of BGE.

After letting the glue set a minute I added thin strips of Best Glue Ever to the back of the gold foiled paper and centered it below the sentiment. 

 I spread a thin layer of BGE on the card blank to hold the base down and the card was finished.

 Best Glue Ever adheres to smooth surfaces without wrinkling the paper. The No-Clog Writing Cap helps me get glue in all the nooks and crannies. ScraPerfect products make this card a success.

How To Make A Homecoming Layout With Best Glue Ever

The uneven surface on this homecoming layout was not an obstacle for Best Glue Ever. I adhered patterned paper, craft foam, and stickers right over all the little ridges. The result is a wonderfully messy page with great staying power!

~ Homecoming 2015 ~

The first layers on this page were made with Nuvo Embellishment paste and stencils. This created texture, depth, and an uneven surface. Best Glue Ever sticks to anything so I had no concerns.

I cut the photo mats at a 1/4" and a 1/2" larger than the photo and used BGE to layer them.

Thin stripes of BGE attached the photo to the layered mat.

The geometric diecut had very thin strips of paper but a No-Clog Writing Cap made it easy to add tiny dots of BGE to the paper. The die-cuts were placed on either side of the photo mat.

Foam tape is easily replaced with craft foam and BGE. I glued to squares to the back of the photo mat. It only take s a couple minutes to set and is so efficient to use.

More BGE adhered the photo mat cluster to the layout. 

A couple minutes to set and my photo was immovable, despite the uneven layers of mixed media. 

I adhered another geometric die-cut to the upper left corner. Once again the No-Clog Writing Cap gave me ultimate control and the ability to place only tiny dots on the paper.

I arranged the diecut onto the cardstock and mixed media surface then trimmed off the edge. 

My title was next, but I knew those alpha stickers would not adhere to the variety of surfaces. No worries, a couple drops of BGE and my title was secure. I used a strip of paper to keep the letters even.

A few stickers and my layout was complete. Best Glue Ever worked for every surface and material I used. ScraPerfect has BGE, No-Clog Writing Caps and a variety of other crafty tools.

How To Make Beautiful Accordion Medallions

Beautiful accordion medallions are a snap to make. I discovered this trick a few years back, but it's time to share it again. This time I have found a nifty tool that simplifies the process, Rinea's Stars N More Templates. This banner spells out SPRING with pleated paper to frame each letter as well as birds and feathers to give it wings. Rinea's Pastel Foiled Paper Variety Pack in Spring colors was perfect for this project. 

Directions:

Step 1:Cut a 5” circle. Cut a 1.75” circle from the center, set this aside for final step.

Step 2: Fold circle in half, lining up outer and inner edges. This will mark the center line and give you a guide for the following folds.

Step 3: Place #6 Template on circle, lining up existing creases.

Step 4: Score remaining six lines. Fold circle at each of these score marks.

Step 5:Fold circle in half at one set of score marks. This will give you a half circle with four creased sections. Fold one section in half to create a crease for the next set of sections.

Step 6:Place #6 Template on circle, over new crease. Score remaining 7 lines. Fold circle at each score mark. 

Step 7:Refold sections so that every other crease is up.
The finished medallion has 16 creases. The banner medallions have 32 creases.

Step 8:Repeat steps 5 and 6 until your medallion has the desired number of creases.  

Step 9:Spread glue on reserved center circle. Best Glue Ever from ScraPerfect holds the foiled papers together. Spread evenly and allow to partially dry.

  Step 10:Place accordion fold medallion on center circle. Hold in place till secure. Leave to dry completely.

The birds and feathers are die cut from the Spring variety pack. Embossing the birds gives them an additional spark of originality. I added different feather lengths to the banner pieces, but kept with the pastel color theme.

How To Make a Beautiful,Textured Card

Here's a few tips for making a beautiful textured card from scraps. Just like every other paper crafter, I have a scraps in every color, texture, and size. How does one combine those into a quick card that isn't to garish or confusing to look at?

This card is made entirely from left-overs. To keep it simple and to help the design flow I used layers of rectangles in different sizes. I used a rounded diecut and ornate red frame to contrast the pastel colors and straight lines that dominate this design.

ScraPerfect's Best Glue Ever works on multiple surfaces. With everything I had going on here it was the only choice! I had to have a fine tipped applicator for the detail pieces. The NO-Clog Writing Cap, also by ScraPerfect, saved the day.

The frame is diecut from Rinea's Ruby/Ruby Starstruck Foiled Paper. The derigible and sentiment are diecut from Rinea's Turquoise/Turquoise Starstruck Foiled Paper. I finished off the card with dots of glitter glue. They add another pop of color and frame the central diecut.
