Blush and White Monochromatic Scrapbook Page

This blush and white, monochromatic page celebrates my daughters first Art Show at school. She was 7, into bright colors, and excited about her work. The photo has so many colors I needed to use a muted palette to let it shine. The blush, white, and pops of grey put my girl and her painting front and center!

For the background I used repeating, off set half circles of punched paper. I also stamped eyes with stylized lashes in peach tone ink. The stamp is from Pink Ink Designs Thalia set.

I added a bit of sparkle with the Rose Glory sequin mix by Spiegel Mom Scraps. Just little bits of glimmer here and there. The keys, the banner, and the hot air balloon each have a different type of sequin.

A cluster of Prima flowers enhance the lower right corner. I didnt' have leaves in the color scheme so I cut up a velvet flower. Creative Embellishment's laser cut gears peak out from behind the flowers, the banner, and either corner of the photo.

I didn't choose a particular theme for the diecuts. I was looking for a filigree style to mesh with the eye stamp. The wood shapes pop the photo up off the page for depth.

Hello Gorgeous, Epic Niece Layout

This gorgeous niece of mine once again makes an appearance on an epic layout. This layered, painted, distressed page looks like June roses and blue skies. Megan always proves to be an excellent subject. I think it might be the impish grin! This time I've used Julie Nutting's French Flea Market collection highlighted with Rinea Foiled Paper.

 I've been ever so inspired by Marilyn Rivera's tearing technique. Her gorgeous work is easy to find on Instagram @marilynriverap4.  I really don't know how she achieves the torn-and-tinted look but I arranged it with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Vintage Pink. I painted the mist onto the cardstock and let it soak thru. Then I peeled back strips of the damp paper.

 The blue and white patterned paper peeks out between the torn strips and on either side of the script paper. I added long pieces of Blush/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper and Turquoise/Turquoise Starstruck Foiled Paper between the layers of cardstock.

Across the top and side of the layout base I used border punched layers. The very top piece is the Turquoise Starstruck again.

 Still hungry for layers and loft I cut, inked, and staggered several bingo cards from the paper pack. They are set on three different levels. I had to build the middle portion up with foam tape to stabilize the photo.

 Another use for my Peachy Cheap Spring dies below. The bicycle cut from blue and pink rosebud calico echoes the pattern of my nieces blouse. More Turquoise Starstruck layers with a Crafter's Companion frame die round out the collage.

 Fussy cut roses with inked and curled edges add to the photo corner. Lots of foam tape in evidence here.

 Although pink is rarely my color of choice, I sure am happy to have had some on hand. This photo was stunning to start with, but now it glows in an epic setting. Who says school photos are embarassing?

How To Make a Beautiful,Textured Card

Here's a few tips for making a beautiful textured card from scraps. Just like every other paper crafter, I have a scraps in every color, texture, and size. How does one combine those into a quick card that isn't to garish or confusing to look at?

This card is made entirely from left-overs. To keep it simple and to help the design flow I used layers of rectangles in different sizes. I used a rounded diecut and ornate red frame to contrast the pastel colors and straight lines that dominate this design.

ScraPerfect's Best Glue Ever works on multiple surfaces. With everything I had going on here it was the only choice! I had to have a fine tipped applicator for the detail pieces. The NO-Clog Writing Cap, also by ScraPerfect, saved the day.

The frame is diecut from Rinea's Ruby/Ruby Starstruck Foiled Paper. The derigible and sentiment are diecut from Rinea's Turquoise/Turquoise Starstruck Foiled Paper. I finished off the card with dots of glitter glue. They add another pop of color and frame the central diecut.

Tailored Layout In Crisp Blue And White

Blue and white bring a crisp tailored look to any layout or paper craft project. Today's layout is a single photo feature with a white base and enough stars to light up the night sky. I have played along with two different challenges and hope you have time to participate with them as well.

This months White...with 1 color is Bayou Blue. It blends perfectly with Rinea Foiled Paper in Sapphire, glossy and starstruck as well as a nautical patterned paper from Canvas Corp Brands. Here is the prompt:

I also played along with January 15 sketch from Stuck Sketches by Laura Whitaker. I like the multiple layers and the stars. Stars are my favorite shape and are guaranteed to bait my creativity, catch my interest, and pull me in. You could say I drive right in, that I go for them, hook, line, and sinker! 😂 Okay, enough dumb jokes.

 To carry out the themes of the sketch and color challenges I used the Postcard, 5 Point Star, and Ticking patterned papers from Canvas Corp's Out To Sea Nautical collection.

Rough cut circles of Rinea Sapphire/Sapphire Starstruck Foiled Paper imitate the stitched circles in the upper left of the sketch. Under the photo mat a long rectangle of ticking patterned paper overlays a piece of Rinea Ebony/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper with star cutouts.

I inked the edges of the ticking paper with Color Snap pigment ink for greater contrast. Rinea Sapphire/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper is layered with more of the ticking pattern paper for a border at the bottom of the page. 

For larger embossed stars I ran pieces of the Rinea Sapphire/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper through my embossing machine with a Darice folder. I wanted the gold side to show, for a touch of warmth. 

 A layer of Rinea Ebony/Ebony Starstruck Foiled Paper is punched with a garland and stars pattern using a Fiskars' punch. I layered a strip of Sapphire/Gold glossy paper underneath to make the design more visible.

 Best Glue Ever, a pressure sensitive adhesive, holds it all together. Whether I am layering with glossy foiled paper or cardstock I reach for ScraPerfect's BGE. Just a little dab, a thin line of glue, and my project is secure. I have no wrinkles, no bleed through, and no hours of dry time.

My final addition were the stars. I used a Momenta die and embossing system for my shapes. Most of the stars I cut from the Ebony Glossy foiled paper I placed under the photo mat. The blue stars are cut from circles left over from the circle strands the Rinea team made for the photo booth at Creativation. I added the circles for good measure.

The photo is our little family in December of 2016. That boy is NOT so small anymore! The four of us together are still a Stellar Cast for any thing life might give us roles in.
