Mixed Media Roots and Wings Tag

 January's Challenge:
Create a tag any size/material

Use feathers
Main color must be blue

 I started with plain white cardstock 4x6". I used my favorite stencil and smooshed Nuvo Embellishment Mousse all over it. I used Aqua glaze medium to paint a journal card from my Gypsy Moments paper pack.

Strips of vintage lace peak out from either end of the journal card. Chipboard gears are stitched to the tag with gold braid. From the ends of the braid hang wings die-cut from cardstock and gold foiled paper. 

Although the wings should count as having used feathers, I added two pale blue feathers at the top. I crowned my Wings and Roots tag with a blue blossom and called it good.

How To Make An Industrial Grunge Layout

~ Challenge The World ~

The photo featured on this layout is my oldest daughter. She was going through a Jane Austen phase and needed a regency style gown to fulfill all her dreams. I agreed to assist with the sewing project on the condition I was permitted a photo shoot. An agreement was quickly made!

The base design for the layout is vertical strips of Blue Fern Studios papers. I used the Screen Print stencil and Lilac Lavender Nuvo Mousse on either edge of the large central strip. Using a binder punch I created a stencil with a piece of cardstock. I used it to create a line of circles from Coastal Surf Nuvo Mousse on the left side and Toasted Almond on the right.

The Tattered Walls kit includes an Architextures Junque Pack:Library. I cut the “door knob” vertically and used circle and hexagon cutting dies on the “tooled leather” piece. Doodling, a scattering of Ideaology phrases, and a twist of ribbon finish the photo frame.

Layering to the right of the photo includes a piece of Kaisercraft frame and more scattered phrases. I edged a scrap of BFS “The Library” with a postcard cut and inked. I slipped the dragonfly shape on the stencil under the edge of the frame. I used my finger tip to apply a thick layer of Nuvo Mousse in Toasted Almond.

I repeated the dragonfly and mousse process at the photos upper edge. The stencil retained some of the product so I patted it randomly across the layout. I machine stitched a line to the left of the photo, and added the drop light from the Architextures Junque Pack.

These are the items I used that are not found in the kit:thread, gel writer, circle and hexagon die, binder punch, grey cardstock doily.

Burlap and Canvas Valentine Card

I love to make elaborate burlap and canvas Valentine's Day cards. My goal was to try out a variety of Canvas Corp Brand Products. They all performed exceptionally well. This shabby chic stitched card is thick with layer after layer of texture and color. Instructions for the flowers and the leaves are included below.

Here is a look at the supplies I used.

 Knot Rose

Step 1:Tie a loose knot in the middle of the fabric.
Step 2:Fold top piece back into knot as show.
Step 3:Add a drop of hot glue inside. Leave tail for attaching.

 Canvas Leaves

Step 1:Cut canvas in half length wise and width wise.
Step 2:Fold canvas with raveled edge to the left, color side in.
Step 3:Stitch diagonal line from raveled edge to straight edge.
Step 4:Trim excess. Open to reveal leaf.

After preparing my roses and leaves I arranged everything in layers. I glued and stitched the pieces to the card base. My final step was to stitch the sentiment to the top lace.

How To Make an Attractive Coffee Cozy

A coffee cozy is not only useful for protecting your hands, it marks your cup as different from the others at the table.While enjoying an afternoon coffee with a friend I made a DREADFUL mistake. I picked up the cup that looked exactly like mine and took a sip. The liquid streaming down my throat was clearly not my coffee! I quickly prepared her a new cup and made a mental note to do something about my look-alike cups.

 These are the products I used. The lace, pleated canvas garland, and glimmer mist are all Canvas Corp products.

Adjustable Canvas Cup Holder

Here is a quick explanation of why this coffee cozy is different from others. The buttons on either end of this cozy are double stacked. A large one on top of a small one gives the band a notch to rest in so it doesn't go "flying off the handle" so to speak.

  The double button idea makes is possible to use an elastic hair tie for the cozy. One wrap works for a large cup, two or three wraps work for smaller cups. Not to mention, a hair tie is something I always have an extra of.
