Mixed Media Roots and Wings Tag

 January's Challenge:
Create a tag any size/material

Use feathers
Main color must be blue

 I started with plain white cardstock 4x6". I used my favorite stencil and smooshed Nuvo Embellishment Mousse all over it. I used Aqua glaze medium to paint a journal card from my Gypsy Moments paper pack.

Strips of vintage lace peak out from either end of the journal card. Chipboard gears are stitched to the tag with gold braid. From the ends of the braid hang wings die-cut from cardstock and gold foiled paper. 

Although the wings should count as having used feathers, I added two pale blue feathers at the top. I crowned my Wings and Roots tag with a blue blossom and called it good.

Mixed Media Delight With Poetry and Paint

Today's project is a mixed media delight of poetry and paint. I used an assortment of stencils with paint, mists, and embossing powder to prepare the background. Gear, star, and wing die-cuts add interest while rub-on alphas convey the poem.

~ What if you fly? ~

 The gears and stars, applied in three layers, are cut from scraps. Single and double layer foam dots give the cluster depth.

 Jade/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper and Turquoise/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper from Rinea are layered for the photo mat. 

 The wings are cut from Ebony Starstruck Foiled Paper and Silver Starstruck Foiled Paper, both from Rinea.

The poem, by Erin Hanson was written about 5 years ago and has sparked a host of illustrations. This is my rendition of the piece, and most likely will not be my last.

Handmade Flowers and Foiled Paper Diecuts

I spent the weekend playing with Fairie Dust, handmade flowers, and foiled paper diecuts! I love this Graphic 45 paper pack so much I don't want to waste a even a SCRAP! I made the layout below with less than two sheets of patterned paper, one and a half sheets of cardstock, and assorted foiled paper scraps.

~ Believe ~

The first trick is to use front and back of the same patterned sheet. That plaid is the reverse of the sweet pea and violet paper. The second trick is to cut the chosen patterned paper into 3 strips of verying width and cut about an inch off the top of two of those strips.

Mount the shorter strips on either edge of a cardstock sheet, about 1/2 inch in from the edge.

The longer strip should be turned over and mounted over the gap on the cardstock. The longer strip will overlap each side by half an inch. I also added a 1" strip of patterned paper down the length of the longer strip for contrast and layers. You can see the thin strip of blue peeking out, below.

I used chipboard and wood shapes as well as an assortment of die cuts for clusters between the layers. Rinea's Marigold, Violet, and Lavender foiled papers are the exact hues to compliment the Fairie Dust collection.

The multi-layered flowers are cut from 2x12" strips of patterned paper from the Fairie Dust collection. After die-cutting the flowers I inked the edges, rolled the petals, stacked them with Best Glue Ever and added a gem for the center.

The plaid paper was a little too busy so I added white doilies for a bit of definition. Scattered chipboard words and a title made from one of the stickers finished off this layout. I love that the orange stuffie in the photo is the exact shade of the Marigold Foiled Paper and the Sweet Peas.

Hello Spring Diecut Delight

I've been stocking up on cutting dies disproportionately to my usage. They are just so clever I can't help myself. My newest assortment is the Spring set from Peachy Cheap. There are 14 total, but I only managed to use 6 on this card. Trying to get this idea in before Easter arrives. 

~ Hello Spring ~

Along with the Spring shaped dies I also used a Spellbinders medallion die and the new Pastel Variety Pack from Rinea. I used all glossy's in this project, including the reverse side for the rabbit and butterflies.

 First I placed the peak-a-boo corner and bunny. I folded back the upper right corner of the card blank and pierced to holes. I added a few dots of Best Glue Ever underneath for extra insurance.

 The Rinea Foiled Paper corner piece and bunny are glued to the corner area with tiny dots of Best Glue Ever. The only way to get dots so tiny is with the No-Clog Writing Cap

made to fit most glues with 3 cap sizes and 3 tip sizes from ScraPerfect.

 I slipped beading thread through the pierced holes and tied a bow. Next I cut a 1" strip of Jade/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper the width of my card. I turned it into grass with Shredding Shears, also a new purchase.

I needed the grass blades to move freely. I added a thin strip of Best Glue Ever along the solid edge, once again being most grateful for my No-Clog Writing Cap.

 Placing the large egg exactly where I wanted it meant I had to curl back the tip to place more drops of Best Glue Ever.

 Exact placement was necessary because I wanted the grass to overlap the egg without obscuring the letters.

 The purple eggs are heavily perforated so I placed more drops with the No-Clog Writing Cap.

 A couple butterflies finished off the spring vignette.

How To Make a Stunning Valentines Album

This stunning Valentines Album is made with a set of vintage flavored scrapbooking papers. Each of the pages is detailed with foiled papers from Rinea's Love Foiled Paper Variety Pack. I used Helmar Glue to stick it all together. Scroll down for a tips and tricks to accent your own album.

Helmar Craft Glue is perfect for this type of project. It dries quickly so the pieces don't shift as you move on to the next page. 

To add shape to a butterfly wing or flower petal, roll the edge over a pencil or other cylinder. Rinea Foiled Paper holds its shape for beautiful details.

Layering Ruby Foiled Paper over Gold Foiled Paper makes luxurious flowers and is easy with Helmar Glue.

 I used natural wood accents throughout the album Helmar Glue held those down easily.

The album cover has all the colors in either a Starstruck or Glossy finish. Helmar Gemstone Glue was an excellent adhesive for the gems I added. It takes longer to dry and holds the gems securely.

How To Make A Bright and Cheery Owl Card

This adorable owl is ready to wish someone special a bright and cheery hello. Rinea Foiled Paper and Helmar Craft Glue made this card a breezy, beautiful project. She's made up of rows of circles. The quick and easy instructions follow.

Directions:
Step 1: Round the lower two corners of the card blank and cut a shallow curve in the top.
My rounded corners are 1" to 1.25" in from the original corners. The shallow curve at the top is 0.75" deep.

Step 2:Position the 2" circles in rows of 3 or 4, starting at the bottom.

I alternated my colors from row to row by flipping the circles over.

 I started out with alternating rows of 3 then 4 circles, as pictured. Then I decided I liked just three red circles at the top. The Helmar's Tacky Craft Glue gave me time to make that decision.

 Step 3:Add Mocha circles to the Silver "eyes", then glue the eyes to the owl.
Play with positioning to decide how you want your owl to look. Once you have the perfect look, add adhesive only to the center of the silver eyes to glue them down. You will need the side and lower edge free to slip the beak under.

 Step 4:Fold down 2 sides of a Mocha circle to make a beak. Glue the beak under and between the owls eyes.

The grid above is made of 1/2 inch squares. The measurements don't need to be exact, but it helps give you an idea of how I made my owl.

 Step 5:Cut Grey circle in half, position on the owls sides as wings.
I knew I wanted a sentiment on my card so I glued the straight edge of the owls wings down and left the scalloped edge free.

Step 6:Layer and attach assorted diecut shapes and sentiment. I glued my "Thanks" between the owls wings. A longer sentiment would fit easily along the bottom of the card.

 My owl will most likely go as a Teacher Thanks. I never seem to have enough of those. But what an adorable valentines or birthday card it would be!
