Paper Girls 2 Year Celebration

Paper Girls Challenge Blog Hop

We are celebrating 2 years with a blog hop and $25 Gift Card from Creative Embellishments.
Creative Embellishments carries wood veneer shapes, chipboard, and stamps. Please give them a big thanks from The Paper Girls over at their blog or facebook page.

For our hop today we have created projects that have a Celebration theme and that use either wood veneer or chipboard shapes. The celebration I've highlighted is the first day of school.

~ the Wheels on the Bus... ~
As soon as I saw the Readers Gallery Layout Sketch in the February issue of SG Create I new I wanted to replace the hearts with letters. I have plenty of alphas that are missing too
many letters or no longer match my style. Setting them up
vertically on chalkboard paper enhanced the school
theme and gave them "new life."

Supplies:
Paper:Farmhouse Paper, Darice
Wood Elements:Prima
Ink:CTMH
Brads:Recollections
Cork Chevrons:Denise Parcells
Border Punch:Kreaxions

Happy

Practical Scrappers is inspiring with shaped cards.
Stop by the blog and see what we have posted.
~ Happy ~
To make this butterfly shaped card I used the Kreaxions butterfly die. I folded my paper in half then off set the die so that the wings and antenna remained connected.
I cut another butterfly and used Kreaxions 3-in-1 Punch #305 on the wing tips. With a little inking and a fun wood sentiment this mini-card was ready to go.

Supplies:
Paper and Sentiment:Studio Calico
Punch and Die:Kreaxions

Special Ops:3 Dimensional Peacock

This handsome fellow is up on SWAT today.
He is mainly the product of Kreaxions Punch #905, their Circle Cutter,
a protractor, and LOTS of hot glue!!!

During Christmas Vacation I developed this Peacock. It was one of those days I woke up ready to craft and just couldn't get my ideas translated into paper fast enough. With a little help from my aunt and my brother I was able to complete this sparkly bird. These instructions are made specifically for Kreaxions Punch #905 (found here). If you will be using a different border/corner punch system be sure to have extra paper for adapting the instructions.

Body
Protractor
4 inch (circle green)
border/corner punch
Place center mark of the protractor at the edge of the circle.
Mark at 50, 70, 90, 110, and 130 degrees; draw lines.
Center punch on each line.
Trim areas between punch marks to resemble feathers.

Wings
4 inch circle
border/corner punch
Divide circle into 8 sections, center punch on each line.
Trim resulting "doily" in half and then lay against body
to get the correct angle for the wings.
Roll body/wings on a vitamin bottle to get curved shape.

Tail
10 strips of each color (1"x 6") with ends punched.
Roll each strip length wise on a pencil to get curved shape.
Attach tail feathers in staggered rows.

Neck and Head
1.25 inch circle (green)
4 inch circle (blue)
2 scalloped corners (blue)
Cut 1" off the circle, wrap into cone shape, pinch the cone to make it narrow.
Match scalloped punched corners so that colored sides are out.
Fold small circle in half and adhere scallopes inside.
Attach circle to small opening of the cone, trimming to achieve desired angle.
Cut slit in neck, 1 inch from the large opening, for tail placement.

Supplies:Paper:DCWV
Punch and Circle Cutter:Kreaxions
Adhesive:Hot Glue

Find Beauty

 Sketchabilities #110
is another delightful inspiration point for mixed media.
I've been playing with acrylic paint and ways to get it to drip nicely on my paper. So far the best choice is  pouring a bit of paint into a separate dish, adding a splash of water and mixing it up. The consistency is judged by experience so no ideas yet on how to pass that on to you.

Non-Essential

When Creative Embellishments put up this photo as inspiration for the March Challenge I was immediately drawn to the colors.
The image is carefree and happy, just like my children when we arrive at the beach.
The first thing they do is shed the unnecessary trappings of society.

even when it's the cold, cold waters of the Pacific.
Once the water finally loses its fascination, the kids are off to collect shells.

Snow Much Fun

This year North Dakota has had the coldest winter I've ever experienced. We've spent too many weeks in the deep negatives. For once I wish it would at least warm up enough to snow!!! In the spirit of that humorous thought I made this Thank You card.

He was a snap to make and looks dashing with his twine scarf.

Passport Photos

While digging through boxes last week to find an old address I came across these photos of my daughters.
Their expressions are hilarious!!!
~ Passport Photos ~
My youngest hated pigtails and was always pulling them out.
They snapped the photo just after she pulled
the rubberband off of one braid.
Here's a closer shot of those chubby mugs:

Splash of Blue

Paper Girls Challenge Blog #51
Kristina challenges us to use this photo for inspiration:
I was inspired by the mosaic look, the blue, and the silver.
~ Splash of Blue ~
As you can see I've recently had a "splash of blue" added to my hair. I had fun dripping acrylic paint down the page to represent my blue streaks. The first set of drips were too thick so I added a little water and tried again. I like both results.
