Christmas is in the Air

A pair of square Christmas cards today.
I love the bird journaling card from WP's Botanical Christmas line. They are just the perfect size for Christmas cards. I tried a ribbon frame and gold lace rose for the first card. Not satisfied with the glitz effect I attempted a second card.
This time I used the shiny side of the red ribbon and added a frame with the gold lace
as well as a row of red gems.

Happy Mail

What could be more fun than opening up
a mail box full of packages!!!
My scrappy friends and I have been busily selling our unwanted scrapping supplies and tools to each other. These unused items have been finding they are wanted after all and we are finding new uses for them. Here are some of the items
I have recently purchased. The punch
on the end is a gift from my Mama.
If you have perfectly good supplies that just aren't being used look around for an internet group and start recycling! This is a great time of year to unload some of those goodies!

Full of Wonder

I had so much fun with the Kiwi Lane Designs cloud template (Celebrate 5) that I just couldn't put it down! I used it to ink the clouds above the photo and sand dunes below using a Scrapbook Steals Tutorial by Becci Manies. Then I alternated it's shape using white and blue cardstock to immitate the motion of waves. Finally I traced it several times in a row to make the detailed border beneath the photo strip.

Fountain Side Chat

Echo Park's Victoria Gardens has such summery colors and classy designs that it was the perfect go-to for these park photos. I combined it with a great sketch by my friend Deborah Johnson. This combination delivered a happy-go-lucky page with fun details.

Rock Climbing

At a recent visit to our favorite park my children climbed to the top of a rock about 5 feet off the ground. They were so proud of there accomplishment that they posed for multiple pictures. To get the illusion of height I crouched down and took the photo at an angle.

This is my entry for the DCWV Stack-a-holics challenge. Although I normally deviate from the sketch quite a bit I kept this one fairly true to the original.

Gluten Free Crust

What would Thanksgiving be without the pies? All that yummy, gooey, flaky goodness...unless your wheat free, then you just watch in agony as everyone else enjoys.
NOT
Try this crust recipe on for size and you'll discover all pies were meant to be!!!

Gluten Free Pie Crust
Ingredients:
Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Using a pastry blender cut butter into flour mixture. Because no gluten is involved there is no need to worry about over processing! Add egg and just enough cold water (1-3 Tablespoons) to shape dough into a ball. Roll out dough between sheets of wax paper or the inside of a grocery bag. Place dough in pan and add filling. Bake as directed.
This recipe is the adapted version that I use from the King Arthur Flour website.

Holding My Grandpa

I particpated in  Kerys Sharrock's blog challenge again this month. I was able to combine each of the individual challenges on this one page.
Kerys inspired her readers with a Color Challenge. I particularly enjoyed the combination of the yellow and teal.
Rochelle challenged her readers to use the following stash items: Something Metal (the brads holding the twine) Journal Pocket (I made mine from vellum) and Chevrons (I used chevron washi tape to make the flower below the photo.
Kristi's technique challenge involved outlining a shape with embellies. I outlined my journaling tag with pearls and my paislees with pleated ribbon.
Brenda offered a sketch challenge, always a great way to start a layout!
~ Holding My Grandpa ~
I decided to have some fun with shapes for this layout and pulled out my Kiwi Lane Designs Templates. I used "Shapes 2T", and "Celebrate 3, 7, and 8." Not only did I trace and cut out, I also used them for inking on the background cardstock and on the photo mat.

Chrismas ATC's: Day 5

These ruby butterflies from WP's Botanical Christmas line are so bright and cheery. They illustrate the "joy" stamp perfectly.
Photo turns and brads strung along MME trim make a strand of lights for this card. An EK Success punch adds a decorative border.

Wreaths and stars for these two cards. A bit of black diamond Stickles, an MME stamp, and a twist of stash twine embellish this set.

Christmas ATC's: Day 3

For this set of cards I went with a simple tree theme.
Using Stickles for ornaments keeps the design simple while adding just a touch of glitter.
A quick strip of dotted ribbon adds color to the white tree.

Places to Go...

Thanks Giving will be here in a few short weeks. If you are part of the group of Americans that make this holiday the biggest travel day of the year you are already dreading the sound of "Are We There Yet???"
WELL, have I got a post for you!!!
Kids need something to do in the car, there is no question about that. But they are such messy little pipsqueaks and WILL get stuff all over the place! I came up with a way to hold their interest and keep their mess to something as innocuous as chalk dust.
~ Places to Go... ~
This project showcases DCWV's chalkboard stack in style.
Step1: I covered a wood clipboard with chalk board paper, then defined the edges with black washi tape.
Step2: I found printable state shapes on the internet, shrunk them to the proper size, then traced them on to different colored chalkboard papers. After cutting and adhering them I had the base for our driving route.
Step3: I marked destinations and places of interest with star or round brads. I traced the route out in order by running a strand of beading cord around the brads starting and ending with "home."
Step4: On a Snap Shot stack Journal card I wrote names of these places and placed a corresponding brad next to it. I attached the journal card to the clipboard with a binder ring.

Although you may not be travelling the circuit I have marked out on this clipboard, this project can easily be altered to a single state with various cities. As you drive along the kids find lots of entertainment in telling you exactly where your next stop or point of interest will be. They can draw all over their chalk-board and the most they'll get on the upholstery is chalk dust!
GENIUS I tell you!!!

The piece in the Middle

One more Thank-you card to show case. It is the companinon piece to the ones in these two posts.
Left Side
Right Side
When making cards using die-cuts I always end up with a 4 inch strip in the middle that looks awkward. But not one to waste paper, I make it into a vertically aligned card. After adding similar design elements to all my cards, I have a matching set of 6 thank-you cards that are all just a tad different.
~ Thanks ~

Die-cut Thanks

Just a quick thank-you card to share today. I love using my die-cuts for cards. They offer shape and design elements along the edges, right where a card would have them. I can chop up a 12x12 die cut, slap it on corresponding cardstock and be done. Since I make hoards of thank-you cards for Teacher Christmas Gifts this is a life saver for me.
 ~ Thanks ~

Family photos are taken by the hundreds with so few being perfect! In this one my nephew has his toungue out and is waving his arms and few of the subjects are looking at the camera. But, they all look happy and very much themselves. And that is really the point of taking photos anyway!!!

Embossed Frame

Practical Scrappers is featuring projects with embossing powder today.
One of my favorite tricks with embossing powder is to create a frame around my card.
It's a fairly simple process. I ink the edges of my card with embossing ink, sprinkle on some embossing powder, and then heat. To protect against smears I only ink two, adjoining sides at a time.
Supplies:
Paper:Little Yellow Bicycle
Ink and Liquid Pearls:Ranger
Embossing Powder:Wow

Thanks Mama

Double feature today on my blog!!!
Paper Girls Challenge is featuring thank-you projects to get us into the Thanksgiving spirit. Stop by the blog and view the DT projects
then join in the challenge and link up!
For my project I decided to make a layout that featured my sister's mothering skills.
I am so proud of the beautiful relationship
 she has with her children.
~ Thanks Mama ~
(I may not remember the curl of each wave or the prints I left in the sand, but I will remember that you were here with me!)

Practical Scrappers is featuring projects with multiple stamps. I stamped directly onto my paper to mat my photos, then I outlined each photo mat so that it would stand out.
For the smallest photos I outlined the stamping with a standard black ink pen. The next size of photo I used rub-ons to outline the photo mat. I outlined the largest photo with pearl strips.
To create my stamped photo mats I measured out exactly where I wanted my photo and then used those measurements to cut a mask.
I laid my mask on the paper, flush with edges of my page. When stamping my image I set the stamp half on the mask and half on the paper.
Rather than leaving the image completely in view, the stamping becomes a background that enhances the photo.

When you link up at the Paper Girls challenge this is the prize you are playing for
That's right...ROLLS and ROLLS of Washi tape!!!
Get busy linking.

Glitz Mini-Album pages 9 and 10

If you are here for the Paper Girls Challenge blog hop please comment on this post:

Page 9 of this mini uses a few more of the tags from the DCWV:Chateau Lavender collection as well as patterned papers and word stickers from the Glitz Design:Dance in Sunshine collection. The ink on this page is CTMH and the twine is stash.
The final page of this mini has very few layers. I blocked out the photo mat with an MME stamp and CTMH ink as well as stickers from the Glitz collection. A few more stickers and a bit of aqua trim from the Glitz collection with a dot or two of Black Stickles and I can call this Mini complete!

Mini-Album Pages 7 and 8

If you are here for the Paper Girls Challenge blog hop please comment on this post:
Dream...Love...and a Hay Rack

Lots of layers on page 7. DCWV:Chateau Lavender had lovely linen look tags and circular elements that stacked nicely with the Glitz:Dance in Sunshine papers and stickers. The Seam Binding is 7 Gypsies and the purple Stickels are Ranger. The ink is CTMH.
The facing page has a sweet journaling card embellished with twine and a Glitz die-cut sticker.
To form the photo mat I used papers from the Glitz collection and MME washi tape. The flower punch is by EK Success, the word stickers are Glitz and the Black Stickels are Ranger. The star brads are stash and the ink is CTMH.

Glitz Mini-Album pages 5 and 6

If you are here for the Paper Girls Challenge blog hop please comment on this post:

Pages 5 and 6 of the mini today. Still enjoying the combination of DCWV: Chateau Lavender with Glitz Design:Dance in Sunshine. In addition to these lovely papers I used petaloo flowers, Stickles, and an EK Success punch. The seam binding is 7 Gypsies and the netting and large gem are from the Glitz collection. The ink is CTMH.
The photo mat is again made into a pocket with a jounaling card tucked behind.
Page 6 actually has no moving pieces, but lots of twine and tags from the DCWV stack. The flowers are made from the Glitz collection trim and the purple flourishes are made with Stickels.
The ink is CTMH.
