Blooming Dress Form

Special Ops: Altered Item
on the SWAT blog today
Stop by to see what common household items I made this dress form out of.
This project was even more fun that usual. My children often give their opinion on the tutorial but rarely help with the decorating. When I had the dress form complete and the lace skirt made, my Lori stepped right in. She went crazy with the flowers and findings and lace and trim. My work area was scattered with every sort of vintage yummy you can imagine. It was an absolute delight to work with her...what little she'd let me do anyway!!!

If you are here for the Scrapping Our Stash blog hop, WELCOME!!!
You should have arrived here from Juliana's blog.

Angel Baby

Welcome to the Scrapping Our Stash blog hop!
This paper pack from Echo Park was so full of autumn loveliness that I bought 2 of each set when they first came out. Then I refused to use them because they were JUST so gorgeous!

I've been having fun with my Smooch Spritz.
This time I drew curly cues and dots with the dipped end of the tube.
See what else I've done here!

Believe

I have been absent from Scrapbook Steals weekly sketch challenge MUCH to long. Finally I am back to play and what a week to choose. My Scrappy Friend Melissa Dehne is Guest Sketch Artist!!!
~ Believe ~
The day we went for our Christmas photo shoot I asked the kids to wear red or black so we could loosely coordinate. This blondie refused...she can be difficult...and said she'd just add a scarf. I am rather color conscious and I did NOT like her mix of purple and red!!! However, in these photos I can see that she chose the perfect color to stand out among these beautiful poinsettias.

Jolly Holiday

Finally finished with the group photos from our Christmas shoot!
These four pages should fill 2 page protectors back to front with the double page spread in the middle. Of course THIS will be the first page. I just love those laughing faces!!!
~ Jolly Holiday ~
The owls ands the Christmas tree are such a fun graphic. I matted the photo, popped up a few stickers, and added a strip of yellow ribbon to match yesterday's page, Be of Good Cheer.

Be of Good Cheer

I'm hard at work, finishing up our Christmas Photo Shoot.
This year I am using Carta Bella: Merry and Bright.
~ Be of Good Cheer ~
Carta Bella's "title page" always has a sample of the included paper designs in strips. With a little snip and another snap they quickly become coordinating banners.

December 2014

This year our Christmas Photo Shoot was like many other years. The kids posed for photos till they got the giggles, then I started snapping pics.
 ~ December 2014~
These photos of the kids mid-chuckle looks great when made into a double page layout. It's easier to follow the progression from smirk to giggle to guffaw.
The blue photo mat on the above page uses a technique I adopted from Joan,
one of my Kreaxions Teammates.
I used the same punch, #914, to decorate the corners of my die-cut and to make a reverse doily to frame my title.

Paper:Carta Bella, Craft Smith Co.
Flowers:Petaloo, K and Company
Trim:May Arts Ribbon

Seraph

Drill #48 is on the SWAT blog today.
with this mood board:

I do love these colors and recently found a photo of my oldest as a baby.
I set myself a challenge to make this layout mostly white with out using white cardstock.
~ Seraph ~
I've been altering metal and resin pieces to complement my projects. This metal piece was originally grey. I used white pigment ink and embossing powder on the center. Then I edged it with black pigment ink and clear shimmer embossing powder. A strip of the original grey is still peaking through between the white and black.
This sweet resin flower is inked and embossed with white. The background of my layout is modeling paste scattered with white embossing powder and white pigment ink. Modeling paste bubbles up funny when you heat it, but the texture is unique.

Vibrant

We spent an afternoon at our local greenhouse enjoying the warmth and taking photos. Stepping into All Seasons from our frozen winter land is such an amazing difference. Everything is alive, blooming, and full of color. Lori grabbed a fallen bloom, slipped it in her hair and was picture perfect!
 ~ Vibrant ~
The gears are primed with lime pigment ink and then embossed with both lime and gold embossing powder. The chain circle is painted with Lindy's Magicals and dusted with gold embossing powder.
I used Kreaxions punch #902 for the circular photo mat.
I love that it looks like a gear.
The letters were fun to alter. I used two colors of pigment ink as well as black embossing powder to create the parfait look.

Eyes of Gold

My oldest daughter has GORGEOUS golden eyes. Depending on her mood and clothing choices they range from light brown, to tawny amber, to bright yellow. While taking a selfie one morning she caught her eyes at their bright yellow stage. Was it her colorful clothing, purple hair, or a happy moment? Whatever the cause I was thrilled to have a copy of her photo.
~ Eyes of Gold ~
The chipboard in the upper corner of this layout is coated with a combination of Color Box pigment inks. I used Gold, Violet, and Cyan in layers. I topped it with clear shimmer embossing powder.
To create that lovely scratchy circle I removed the mister from my Smooch Spritz and drew on the paper. It took several dips, which created those lovely blotchy splatters!
The resin flowers on this layout are inked with pigment ink then embossed with clear shimmer embossing powder. I tried to use only the ink, but it wiped off the resin without the heat and powder to set it.
Here is an assortment of resin flowers in before and after stages of altering.
The title for my piece was cut using my Silhouette.
I used the cut away as a mask and applied black pigment ink. Next I dusted gold embossing powder onto the letters in a scattered fashion. The letters with too much powder I brushed off with a paint brush before heating.
This is my entry for Red Carpet Studio's
Use things in sets of 2.
The white and yellow resin flowers as well as the purple gem flowers have twins.
I also used the same photo twice, once in color, once in B/W.

Gardener

While sorting a box from under the bed I found this sweet photo of my daughter. Her grubby little fingers, happy smile, and sunflower tell the story. Of course nothing would do but to abandon the real work and begin a bit of scrappy therapy!!!
~ my little kinder
  Gardener ~
I tried a few new things on this layout.
The first was making mist circles. I opened my mister, and used the end of the tube to draw on my paper. It took multiple dips back into the mist, but the look is JUST what I wanted.
My second exploration involved altering resin flowers. They were just a little too bright for my color scheme. I inked them with pigment ink (white or brown) then dusted with clear, glitter embossing powder. The pink flower I lightly inked a second time and used gold embossing powder.
I'm LOVING the way they turned out!

I will be entering this layout into a new-to-me challenge site.

Simplify

SWAT
Drill #47
One Little Word
My focus this year will be on de-cluttering my household in preparation for our move back to the West Coast. I am thrilled at the prospect of going home, however the amount of organization and work this will require is considerable. My word?

That Smile

My second child is one of those people that struggles to smile. When I get a shot of her smiling I don't care WHAT her surroundings are, I scrap that baby!!!
 ~ That Smile ~
This time we were having a tea party. We always sit on the floor, sometimes with pillows, and spread a pretty cloth for our dishes. The fancy cups with the gold rims come out of hiding and we laugh and joke till all the food is gone...and somebody spills their tea.
That's what building memories is all about!

Hedgie Family

Over the summer my children discovered the joy of sculpting.
Silas made a whole family of hedgehogs with his portion of the air-dry clay. I love the cute little details right down to the tiny button tails!
~ Hedgie Family ~
This months Scrappy friends challenge is up and ready to be entered.
For Kelly's color challenge I used all the colors but majored on the coral.
For Rochelle's Tic Tac Toe challenge I used the bottom row:
Border Punch (Kreaxions) Journal Card (as a photo mat)
The color Gold (on my flower and the fussy cut ribbon)
For Brenda's Sketch Challenge I flipped the image.

Give It a Week

As we head into another long North Dakota winter I have to laugh at last years memories.
~ Give It A Week ~

Enjoy Life

Sketch #130 at Sketchabilities looks like the perfect opportunity for a bright color palette. Finding the right paper was easy with Carftsmith Gradients collection. I just can't get over the amazing colors and texture of this paper!
To My Younger Self:
ENJOY LIFE
To spice up my photo mat I used my craft knife to cut diamonds from the paper. First I used the reverse of the paper as a mask for modeling paste. Then I cut extra diamonds from the purple paper to let the green peek through.
With the purple and green papers I needed equally bright flowers. I grabbed my stash of Petaloo flowers and soaked them down with various shades of Dylusions. Generous helpings of gold and iridescent embossing powder helped things along.
The detailed border punch which matches the photo corners spices the edges up.
Finally, a title that reminds me to Enjoy Life!!!
