Embossed and Die Cut Valentine Card

An embossed and die cut Valentine Card in classic colors is sure to be a hit. It can be tricky to work with foiled paper and not leave dents or other marks. Check out the tips below if you have struggles.

The best card starts with a nicely layered base of interesting papers. Here I chose a pearlescent patterned cardstock, star embossed foiled paper, and black card stock. The embossed piece is rather intricate and it took some time to remove all the bits.

 The wings are die-cut from gold foiled paper and embossed with the feather design. placing the wings directly on the cared would have caused them to lose shape. I also cut and embossed additional wings from cardstock to give the foiled paper a cushion. I ran Tape Runner directly on the cardstock then added the foiled paper. This preserved the embossed design.

The heart is popped up off the card front. I added strips of foam and again applied the adhesive to the foam rather than the foiled paper.

Die-cut Flourishes and Sequins Layout

This layout of Pepe the parrot features die-cut flourishes and plenty of sequins. This pretty parrot caught our eye during a trip to the fair. he kept asking for potato chips and we got to feed him. I guess when one reaches the age of 70 chips are back on the menu!

This is my take on this months Scraplift Challenge for Spiegel Mom Scraps sequins. I flipped the arrangement and used flourishes in place of the feathers. I embellished the flourishes with sequins from several different mixes.

The photos didn't do Pepe justice! There was so much going on in the background he hardly stood out. I fussy cut Pepe from one of the photos, gave him a curly cue perch, and framed him in white. Pepe is a blue and gold macaw but he looks orange in this lighting.

I doodled a frame and date/place stamp with Jelly Roll white ink. Tiny type and fabric letter bullet points give the pertinent details. Paprika by Photoplay was the perfect compliment to Pepe's personality and his love of BBQ Chips.

Remind someone to "Be Excellent" with a pair of positive vibes cards.

Handmade papers from the Compose Your Life collection steal the spotlight for this project. Layers of texture are topped with fussy cut roses. Sentiments edged with foiled paper urge the recipient to "Live Beautifully" and to "Be Amazing."

 For these cards I used Crafter's Companion doily dies. They cut the intricate swirls and curves from  the hand made papers smoothly. The banner and heart dies are non branded. 

Rinea Foiled paper edges these cards and backs the sentiments. Gold and Copper glossy finish paper is popped up with foam tape. The sentiments are hand trimmed from the paper collection.

Layout with Watercolors and Gold Embossed Mermaids

Decorative scissors, watercolored tags, and a dusting of gold embossed mermaids take this waterside layout to the next level. During a previous crafting challenge I water painted several 7gypsies tags. I used those lovely paper bits as layers on this project and the result is stunning.

The craft knife got a good workout on this ships wheel and the cluster of images at the side. I used decorative scissors to give the mermaid a postcard edge.

To help each image stand out I added vellum doilies beneath. I die-cut a couple mermaids from the scraps cut out of the center of the ships wheel. Gold embossing powder dusted along the edges of the mermaid gives her an extra glimmer.

I used more scraps from the center of the wheel to mimic waves. I had to ink the upper edges to give them definition against the photo. Die-cut vellum doilies create sea foam at the waves edge.

A strand of seaweed shaped ribbon is wound through the layers of ephemera and around the ships wheel. I secured it with strategically placed dots of Best GlueEver.

Never one to shy away from glitz and glam, I stacked foiled paper for the photo mat. The first layer is Silver Starstruck Foiled Paper and the second Lavender Starstruck Foiled Paper, both from Rinea. The Starstruck Foiled Paper with its embossed stars and matte finish give the photo the seat of honor.

Childhood Hero Layout, Stitched and Water Colored

Today’s project is a stitched, water colored, layout featuring my daughters childhood hero. I used 3 different patterns from Graphic 45’s Fairie Dust, majoring on the B sides. Those tiny prints appeal to me and make layering a snap.

The signature page for Fairie Dust has a lovely frame with images outlined along the edges. I knew right away that I wanted to add watercolors to it. The color intensity is muted by the background of blue and green, but over all I like the way the fairies are highlighted.

I fussy cut violets but had to back them with vellum doilies. I didn’t want them disappearing into the purple of the central strip.

The frame ended up with a few chunks bitten right out of it. To camouflaged the small gaps by inking the inner edge of the frame. The large bits were covered with fussy cut fairies from Tiny Toadstools.

I folded down the corners of the photo mat and stitched them with gold braid. I also stitched the purple central strip to grey cardstock. I tried a fancy stitch first, but it didn’t really show up so I went over it with a zigzag.

How To Make a Glowing Gratitude Card

Today’s project is a greeting card that glows with gratitude. The layer of cardstock and fussy cut flowers are topped with Rinea Foiled Paper. The result feels like a walk down a garden path.

For this card I die-cut scalloped circles and feathers from cardstock. The bird is die-cut from Rinea Silver/Silver Starstruck Foiled Paper. The ornate circle frame is die-cut from Rinea Copper/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper. The sentiment is die-cut from Rinea Blush/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper.

The roses and leaves are fussy cut from patterned paper. It’s a time consuming process, but sure looks great layered. The key is not to worry about the details. If you cut a little too much off, ink the edges with a dark neutral and it’s all good.

The first layer of the card is a circle cut from Rinea Silver/Silver StarstruckFoiled Paper with punched edges.

That layer is topped with cardstock circles separated by foam tape. I slipped the fussy cut flowers between the circles with more foam tape.

Finally the die-cut bird, feather, frame, and sentiment are arranged with the help of more foam tape. Two feathers were a little too much. I had to save one for another project. The remaining die-cuts in spring shades express “Thanks” with class and garden charm.

Handmade Flowers and Foiled Paper Diecuts

I spent the weekend playing with Fairie Dust, handmade flowers, and foiled paper diecuts! I love this Graphic 45 paper pack so much I don't want to waste a even a SCRAP! I made the layout below with less than two sheets of patterned paper, one and a half sheets of cardstock, and assorted foiled paper scraps.

~ Believe ~

The first trick is to use front and back of the same patterned sheet. That plaid is the reverse of the sweet pea and violet paper. The second trick is to cut the chosen patterned paper into 3 strips of verying width and cut about an inch off the top of two of those strips.

Mount the shorter strips on either edge of a cardstock sheet, about 1/2 inch in from the edge.

The longer strip should be turned over and mounted over the gap on the cardstock. The longer strip will overlap each side by half an inch. I also added a 1" strip of patterned paper down the length of the longer strip for contrast and layers. You can see the thin strip of blue peeking out, below.

I used chipboard and wood shapes as well as an assortment of die cuts for clusters between the layers. Rinea's Marigold, Violet, and Lavender foiled papers are the exact hues to compliment the Fairie Dust collection.

The multi-layered flowers are cut from 2x12" strips of patterned paper from the Fairie Dust collection. After die-cutting the flowers I inked the edges, rolled the petals, stacked them with Best Glue Ever and added a gem for the center.

The plaid paper was a little too busy so I added white doilies for a bit of definition. Scattered chipboard words and a title made from one of the stickers finished off this layout. I love that the orange stuffie in the photo is the exact shade of the Marigold Foiled Paper and the Sweet Peas.

How To Make a Stunning Valentines Album

This stunning Valentines Album is made with a set of vintage flavored scrapbooking papers. Each of the pages is detailed with foiled papers from Rinea's Love Foiled Paper Variety Pack. I used Helmar Glue to stick it all together. Scroll down for a tips and tricks to accent your own album.

Helmar Craft Glue is perfect for this type of project. It dries quickly so the pieces don't shift as you move on to the next page. 

To add shape to a butterfly wing or flower petal, roll the edge over a pencil or other cylinder. Rinea Foiled Paper holds its shape for beautiful details.

Layering Ruby Foiled Paper over Gold Foiled Paper makes luxurious flowers and is easy with Helmar Glue.

 I used natural wood accents throughout the album Helmar Glue held those down easily.

The album cover has all the colors in either a Starstruck or Glossy finish. Helmar Gemstone Glue was an excellent adhesive for the gems I added. It takes longer to dry and holds the gems securely.
