Embossed and Die Cut Valentine Card

An embossed and die cut Valentine Card in classic colors is sure to be a hit. It can be tricky to work with foiled paper and not leave dents or other marks. Check out the tips below if you have struggles.

The best card starts with a nicely layered base of interesting papers. Here I chose a pearlescent patterned cardstock, star embossed foiled paper, and black card stock. The embossed piece is rather intricate and it took some time to remove all the bits.

 The wings are die-cut from gold foiled paper and embossed with the feather design. placing the wings directly on the cared would have caused them to lose shape. I also cut and embossed additional wings from cardstock to give the foiled paper a cushion. I ran Tape Runner directly on the cardstock then added the foiled paper. This preserved the embossed design.

The heart is popped up off the card front. I added strips of foam and again applied the adhesive to the foam rather than the foiled paper.

 This is my first project for the Tape Runner Design Team and I am really liking the product. Purchase Tape Runner with Amazon Prime or on Etsy.

How To Make a Prom Photo Into Home Decor

Today's project is a prom photo, embellished and framed for home decor. Tulle and silk brocade are joined by silver sequins, flashy trim, and music themed paper. Foiled paper flowers and medallions and even more glam to this hand painted frame.

 The background is music themed cardstock with a navy tulle overlay. I used tiny metal brads for a tufted look. Here is how I accomplished that.
1) Pierce holes in paper at regular intervals with offset rows.

2) Lay large piece of tulle over paper so that it extends beyond each side by a few inches.
3) Beginning at center of paper insert brad through tulle and paper, twist to right one full turn then secure.
4) Work out from center brad placing and twisting brads. Each horizontal row of brads is twisted the opposite way.

 I hot glued rhinestone trim to the bottom edge of the tulle. When it cooled I added half a portion of Royal Highness SMS Sequins. An identical rhinestone band of trim was hot glued to the top. The sides of the tulle were folded to the back of the cardstock and hot glued there. When everything was sealed and cooled I shook the sequins around until they filled the tulle pocket. 

 The flowers on this photo are made of Rinea Foiled Paper. I used both Sapphire and Silver Starstruck Foiled Paper with Sizzix Dies. The first three flowers have petals curled up. The second three have petals curled down. 

 Chipboard leaf flourishes are painted with metallic Tiffany blue and scattered with the foiled paper flowers. A strip of silk brocade from the dress is wrapped into a rose and crowns the arrangement.

Glossy silver and turquoise foiled paper is layered under the photo. I used a Spellbinders die to cut the pieces for the mosaic medallion. Stickers, gemstones, and a chipboard alpha complete the layout.

 The rainbow flash of these amazing sequins is so hard to get with a camera. Here's a little corner of what it looks like in person. Glamour and class are the order of the day.

The wood frame is an 11x14" thriftstore find. I sanded the finished wood then painted it grey. When that dried I dry brushed silver over the top. After several layers and a few mistakes it looks just right! This Home Decor project is my entry for the August challenge at Nomadic Soul Diaries. Mermaid Birthday Cards With Watercolor Details

This pair of mermaid themed birthday cards has lovely watercolor details and a fun sentiment. Pink Ink Designs Stamps have intricate designs, heavy on the flourish and smooth on the charm. They have become my new guilty pleasure.

The jewel tone card is layered with Glossy Violet/Gold Foiled Paper by Rinea. The mermaid and sentiment are from the Sea Nymph stamp set. The shell and seahorse are from the Shell Nymph stamp set. I fussy cut her two little friends and used foam tape to pop them up.

The pastel card is layered with Starstruck Jade Foiled Paper by Rinea. The fancy fish is from the Mermaid stamp set. Both card blanks are cut and folded from Craftsmith paper.

How To Update a Metal Sign With Foiled Paper

I used Rinea foiled paper and Prima Flowers to update this metal sign for my craft room. I found it one day while out thrifting. I have always planned to give it some pizzazz and alter the message a bit. Having just updated my crafting space I knew it was finally time to get to this project.

I absolutely love the pale green color of this sign. The pressed metal has a great embossed design and the whole thing centers nicely on my crafting desk. The title doesn't quite fit though.

I used the Mini-WeRMrk Alphabet Punch board to make new letters. The embossed Starstruck Jade Foiled Paper from Rinea is the exact color of the sign. It cut and punched beautifully.

I sanded the sign and adhered Glossy Copper/Gold Foiled Paper from Rinea to the center. I then added the letters. Helmar adhesive is a fantastic all-purpose adhesive that doesn't leave wrinkles and worked great with the metal and glossy surfaces. 

I like bling so I ran a strip of copper and green washi tape around the border of the Glossy Copper/Gold Foiled Paper . 

It was looking a little bare so I added paper flowers and leaves. I was still on the green kick so I found some green and gold marbled flowers and set them off with white flowers and tawny leaves.

How To Make a Mixed Media Banner for Mom

Today's blog post is a Mixed Media Banner for Mom. Three 4x6 alphabet cards are attached to a garland of white roses, a yard long. I plan to slip the middle letter through the handle of a gift bag and let the M's drape down.

This banner will be my entry for the April 15th Bleeding Arts Challenge: Add Stenciling. I used three different stencils, one for each alphabet card. For the Alladin Screen from Kite I used a lavender Embellishment Mousse from Tonic Studios. Liquitex Modeling Paste and a square frames stencil make the background for the O.

The second M uses a TCW reel stencil with ink and glimmer mist. The coloring was too subtle so I added dragonflies with a TCW stencil and blue Embellishment Mousse from Tonic Studios.

After allowing the media to cure I added fussy cut elements and diecuts to the first M. I attached the rose garland with tiny white brads as well as a large gem and pearl brad.

The O turned out very steampunk. The keys, chain and lock plate are all from my stash. The gears are 7gypsies. The bicycle diecut is Peachy Cheap, the Wings are Spellbinders, and the Zephyr is Amazon.

The second M has fussy cut rabbits, tiny Prima flowers, and a spray of Prima gems. The blue butterfly is a Prima flower with a petal removed, pinched in the middle, and a trio of gems added. Another gem and pearl combo of brads attach this card to the garland.

The fabulous Letters are punched from copper Rinea Foiled Paper. I used a WeRMrk Alphabet Punchboard to form the letters.

It can be tricky to capture the shine of Rinea Foiled Paper on camera. In person the glow is luxury at its finest! It meshes perfectly with the assortment of Blue Fern Studios papers I used for these cards.

How To Make a Stamped Card With Multiple Layers

This stamped card with multiple layers samples all of my favorite things. Foiled paper, sequins, seashells, tiny flowers, netting, and hand painted details enhance this shabby chic creation. The visual depth gives it an extra touch of luxury.

 I had specific plans for it until I realized I had given a card with this image just last year!!! Clearly a favorite stamp of mine.

To get the layers of this sweet girls dress I stamped the image on two different colors of cardstock. Then I cut it out, trimming it shorter each time. 

The bottom layer is white for the petticoat with painted hands, legs, and shoes. I assembled the images with thin layers of Helmar adhesive between. 

I stacked the parasol and little boy separate from the dress. I did cut a few images wrong but had plenty of cardstock to stamp and emboss for the next try. I stamped the final image on a 4x6 piece of white cardstock, then I cut out the ocean for my shaker window.

I used watercolors to add the beach and the ocean. The shaker cavity is filled with Spiegel Mom Scraps sequins. I used two different mixes to get the look I wanted. I used more Helmar Adhesive to attach the sea shells.

The shaker looked too plain on the blue card. I added a large rectangle of pink netting and tied the corners with gold braid. I added 4 copper flourishes to the card front as well as blue, velvet flowers.

I placed tiny shells and flowers around the sides of the card. The final touch was a sentiment, matted in more of the Copper Foiled Paper from Rinea.

Valentines With Watercolors.

The Creative Studio

 Rather than a mixed media or layered paper approach, I went directly to painting. I've been practicing my drawing skills and am pleased with how this beauty turned out!

 The purple and green of her tail and hair are Tattered Angels Chalkboard Mist:Clover and Amethyst. The ocean is Tattered Angels Chalkboard Mist:Boogie Board and Blue Ribbon. The ocean didn't turn out quite like I had planned. Watch for more projects as I perfect my water technique!

The words are hand-lettered using a paint brush and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist:Mardi Gras. To give the card a splash of valentine shine I matted it with gold foiled paper from Rinea.

Positive Vibes Cards

Remind someone to "Be Excellent" with a pair of positive vibes cards. 

January's Crew Challenge for Canvas Corp is to create with the Compose Your Life paper pack. To see all the entries for this month's Good For The Creative Soul Challenge stop by

Handmade papers from the Compose Your Life collection steal the spotlight for this project. Layers of texture are topped with fussy cut roses. Sentiments edged with foiled paper urge the recipient to "Live Beautifully" and to "Be Amazing."

 For these cards I used Crafter's Companion doily dies. They cut the intricate swirls and curves from  the hand made papers smoothly. The banner and heart dies are non branded. 

Rinea Foiled paper edges these cards and backs the sentiments. Gold and Copper glossy finish paper is popped up with foam tape. The sentiments are hand trimmed from the paper collection.

Layered Christmas Card With Watercolor Wreath

Today's project is a layered Christmas card with a watercolor wreath. The deep red poinsettias are accented with glitter glue stems and foiled paper holly at the corners. Layers of red and grey cardstock are the perfect setting for this seasonal wish.

~ Merry Christmas ~

The first step with this card is to emboss, die-cut, and paint the wreath. Watercolors dry quickly, but the glitter glue accents will need to sit much longer.

The center piece of cardstock is 3.25 x 5.25". The corners are detailed with a holly punch and the sentiment is placed at the center. Gold pigment ink is layered with gold embossing powder and then heat embossed.

 A rectangle of emerald green foiled paper lines the back of the center piece. Best Glue Ever holds the foil secure.

 The center of the holly punches are decorated with red glitter glue.

 The card base is 4 x 6" topped with a 3.75 x 5.75" rectangle of striped cardstock. Best Glue Ever holds these pieces together without a wrinkle.

 The top piece is added with scant amounts of super strong Best Glue Ever.

 When all is secure and dry, a thin ring of Best Glue Ever holds down the wreath.

 The layers give this card a luxurious look and give Best Glue Ever a chance to really shine as it holds everything together. Stop by the ScraPerfect online store and buy yourself a couple bottles for your Christmas Card crafting.
